Backseat (notice the flux capacitor)

(Updated 09/06/07)

Horribly burry picture, butthe lights are on! ... including the check gauges light, abs inop light, among others!

(Updated 06/22/07)

The dash will need to be taken out once again to trim part of the '71 dash out. This is because the dash in one area sits a touch higher than the dash and a custom piece that will need to be made to fill the area to the windshield won't sit flush. A-pillar covers will also need to be modified to fill in the area between the dash and glass.

The monster-sized blue cowhide came in earlier this week! The door panels will be worked on and should have a picture up in a couple weeks. The front seats, back seat panels, headliner, and trunk panels will also have some of the blue suede. Black carpet will finish the back seat area. We're very excited about the interior!

The first picture below shows the driver seat bolted down. The passenger seat, console, and a mock-up of the door panel was all in at once, but never took the picture. Needed all three of those to figure out interior clearance. The lower pocket that would have been under the '01 arm rest (picture further down) had to go because the seat was in the way. The mounts are in the perfect location. With the seat all the way back and with my legs stretched, my toes are still 5" from the firewall and I'm 6' tall. The arm rest needed to be moved up about 1.5" to make it perfect, so the door handle from the '01 TA also had to be located as far up as possible in the '71 door frame. We then realized the door panel was suppose to be located on top of the weather stripping! ... never ends... The mirror location is shown in the picture below also. The side mirrors have LEDs on the side for turn signals. The mirrors have been sanded with the mounting location, pitch, and angle determined.

This picture below shows the new passenger seat mount locations. The old mount bolt holes are shows about 5" forward of the new ones. It took nearly a day for each side just to be sure of the correct hole locations with everything mocked in for clearance and to make sure we weren't drilling into anything below since we added support to the frame. Another hurdle was the uneven floor that was changed as well as the uneven passenger seat legs. The drivers seat was flat and easier to do. The rear legs were longer, so square aluminum spacers gave the seat a perfect tilt.

Snaking the modified wiring harness back through the dash and doing a final bolt-down of the dash and '01 steering column capped the toughest part of the wiring. The harness was extended about 8 feet each way so that the fuse boxes and clutter from the engine compartment would be hidden in the trunk... a task you wouldn't wish on your enemy! Each cut wire was soldered back together at both ends and heat-shrink tubing was used. There are hundreds of soldered joints with approximately 1,300 feet of new wire. Some old wire was removed from the original '01 harness such as anti-lock brakes and traction control... who needs traction control anyways? The seats and door panels will be two-tone with a dark blue suede.

Before straightening and taping part of the modified '01 TA wiring harness.

After taping. Some wire spools were thrown away, but most were still laying around.

The fuse boxes and thebattery will be hidden by these panels. Beautiful fit.

Nothing new for the interior. Mainly future plans for the backseat has almost been ironed out, which include a waterfall and vinyl wrap around the roll bar.

(Updated 02/24/06)

The interior arm rests, door handles, and speaker/door pouch will be used from the 2001 TA door panels as part of the custom '71 interior. The picture below shows how it will look with the sail panel and cut side panel/arm rest. The '71 side panel was cut to clear the roll bar. The rest of the back seat area will be black, possibly with a blue strip coming from the door panels to the rear, leading into a water fall like the Corvettes... Still trying to decide.

This is the passenger side kick panel that has been upholstered with matching vinyl and texture from the '01 TA dash and arm rests. Other interior pieces like the upper door and window trim will receive the same treatment.

This is the interior wiring assembly that will be used from the '01 TA also, minus anti-lock brake wires, etc. The fuse cluster will be placed in the trunk behind panels to clean up the engine compartment.
